MIRER, 2019

Film / Ffilm , 10 minutes / munud.

Tyneside Cinema and Northumbria University Graduate Artist in Residence Gethin Wyn Jones’ new commission explores the material of film through the act of filming itself. Filmed on 16mm, Mirer – the title taken from the French ‘to watch intensely, to stare’ – meditates on the ARRIFLEX 416 Plus camera as both commodity and tool. Using familiar cinematic conventions, the film unfolds via a choreography of extreme close-ups and slow motion which speak of both cinema’s rich history and of its ability to seduce.
