25 April 2013 – 23 March 2014

RIFF/T is open at BALTIC’s project space at BALTIC 39, Newcastle upon Tyne
Open Wed-Sun 12.00-18.00, Thursdays 12.00-20.00

As a response to the first RIFT exhibition, Gethin Wyn Jones has installed a large scale enormous pixelated, two-tone imaginary ‘landscape’. Pasted directly onto the wall, the installation critiques attention by functioning as a background to the Baltic 39 reception.

RIFF/T  is a two part exhibition about painting, abstraction, representation and their respective expanded fields. Divided into two sequential parts, the works presented focus upon the opposing themes of the harmonious RIFF, and discordant RIFT. Utilising a range of media that reference, mimic and push both ideas integral to painting, and the processes of painting itself, RIFF/T seeks to highlight trends, facets and approaches particular to the medium, now.

Fel ymateb i’r arddangosfa cyntaf, mae Gethin Wyn Jones wedi gosod ‘tirwedd‘ pixel dwytôn dychmygol ar raddfa fawr. Wedi ei pastio yn uniongyrchol ar y wal, mae’r gwaith yn beirniadu ar sylw pobol trwy gweithredu fel cefndir i’r dderbynfa galeri Baltic 39.

RIFF/T yw arddangosfa ddwy ran am baentio a cynrychiolaeth ac mae eu meysydd ehangu priodol. Wedi rhannu yn ddwy ran dilyniannol, y gwaith a gyflwynir ffocws ar y themâu croes y RIFF cytûn, a RIFT anghydnaws. Gan ddefnyddio amrywiaeth o gyfryngau sy’n cyfeirio, dynwared a gwthio y ddau syniadau o baentio, a’r prosesau o beintio ei hun, mae RIFF/T yn ceisio amlygu tueddiadau, agweddau a dulliau penodol i’r cyfrwng.
